Why Port Moody is one of the best investments around

For decades Port Moody has been mostly industrial land situated on the easternmost tip of the Burrard Inlet, and nestled just to the south of the rolling Coast Mountains.

In 1882 the city opened its first train station, but it wasn’t until over 100 years later that we started to see the immense growth and potential of the neighbourhood. In 2014 an Official Community Plan was approved, and in 2016 the first skytrain station in the region opened, kicking off the beginning of the new Port Moody.

With roughly 35,000 residents, the shift to becoming one of the most desirable locations in Greater Vancouver is well underway as people flock to the waterfront homes surrounded by greenery. While there are constantly a number of ‘smaller’ developments such as Panatch Group’s 50 Electronic Ave., there are now potential plans for an additional 3,775 homes at Port Moody City Centre which would bring an estimated 7,000 new residents to the city. The project would include several towers of varying height, as well as retail, office, and light industrial spaces that could employ up to 1,400 people. Five minutes outside Port Moody City Centre there is another development proposed which would bring another 2,300 homes and almost another 5,000 residents.

The two projects combined would bring in roughly 12,000 new residents to the area; a 34% increase over the current population, in addition to the other ongoing developments.

Port Moody is a fantastic investment right now, here are three reasons why:

1. Waterfront Living

Port Moody sits right on the Burrard Inlet, meaning many homes have stunning water views, and it’s easy to get to Rocky Point Park and walk around the inlet yourself. In the summer (or winter if you’re brave enough) you can kayak and canoe around for leisure, for your workout, or just to get some sun. While you’re there you can also pick up some of Pajo’s famous fish and chips and go for a walk along Shoreline Trail which takes you around the water and through the woods. All in all, Port Moody offers some of the best waterfront living in Greater Vancouver.

2. Transit Friendly

Whether you’re interested more in the breweries along Murray Street, or the convenience of Suterbrook Village, there’s a skytrain that can get you there quickly and easily. Inlet Centre Skytrain Station is less than a 5-minute walk from Suterbrook which is its own community with Thrifty Foods, Romer’s Burger Bar, and every other amenity you could want within seconds of each other. Moody Centre Skytrain Station Is less than a 10-minute walk to Port Moody’s Brewery Row which houses Yellow Dog Brewing, Twin Sails Brewing, The Parkside Brewery, The Bakery Brewing, and Moody Ales. The skytrain also makes it easy for commuters that may work in Downtown Vancouver to get around as it’s only a 45 minute ride away - and there’s no sitting in traffic required.

3. Rapid Growth

With skytrain comes development and local developer have noticed the blossoming waterfront community. The two largest and most notable projects are the Flavelle Sawmill redevelopment, which will bring in roughly 7,000 new residents, and the Port Moody City Centre redevelopment, which promises another 5,000. The Flavelle development will be situated right on the water, making it the city’s premiere project, but the two projects combined will increase the population by 34%.

The current projects such as 50 Electronic Ave. are priced well with units starting at $399,900, but soon Port Moody will become just as expensive as their neighbours in Coquitlam and the rest of Greater Vancouver, where convenient skytrain access alone is enough to push prices north of $1,000 per square foot.
